In June 2026, the Zoological Museum Kiel opened the exhibition “FORMS. DIVERSITY. EVOLUTION.” featuring photographs by Jutta Drabek-Hasselmann. On display are large-format close-ups of collection objects from the museum’s storage that are rarely or never seen.
Collections are archives of life. They not only preserve scientific data but, above all, document the fascinating diversity of forms and structures on our planet. In doing so, they also safeguard a unique artistic treasure. The photographs highlight the beauty and evolutionary aesthetics of various organisms that have developed over millions of years, bringing home to us the uniqueness, but also the profound vulnerability, of nature — a powerful plea for the value and preservation of our biodiversity.
Zoologisches Museum Kiel, Hegewischstr. 3, 24105 Kiel, Germany
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 9 am – 5 pm, Sat 10 am – 5 pm, Sun 12 am – 4 pm
Upcoming:
Opening of „FUND-STOFF-SACHEN“ („FOUND OBJECTS“) on June 27th 2026
Starting June 27, 2026, I will be showcasing a new aspect of my photographic work in the exhibition “Fund-Stoff-Sachen” at the Berlin cultural venue “KL91.” For my photo series, I left the studio and documented flotsam found along curbs, hiking trails, and riverside paths. In the process, I came across many items of clothing that had taken on peculiar shapes due to environmental factors or had been draped in unique ways by passersby. Each found object invites speculation and sparks stories in the viewer’s mind. Exhibition visitors are invited to share their own interpretations and contribute to the exhibition using an instant camera. This art project is dedicated to environmental protection and aims to playfully draw attention to avoidable waste.“
